The access to the port is marked by a lighthouse, that is located at the Southernmost point of the port, at 30mts above sea level.  The geographic location of the lighthouse is latitude 11º 14' 8” North and longitude 85º 53' 9”  West, it signals with white light with a beam that shows every 6 seconds, and with a reach of 16 miles. It is powered with solar energy, which guarantees it´s functioning at all time. The entrance harmonization is formed by two lighthouses with red lights whose reach is of 6 miles.

 

 

TIDES: depths in the anchorage area (500 mts of the wharf).
At high tides: 12,0 meters.
At low tides: 9,60 meters.


Routes towards the port:
• Access via Rivas, junction San Juan del Sur – La Virgen,  28 Kilometers, asphalt road.
• Access via Rivas, la Chocolate-San Juan del Sur, 25 Kilometers, dirt road, transitable year-round.
• International access via Costa Rica, Ostional- San Juan del Sur, 47 Kilometers, all time dirt road.

DESCRIPTION OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM OF THE WHARF:


International commerce vessels berth about 400 meters of the wharf, where the average depth is 33 feet (relative to the mean tide level (MTL)).
Nowadays this port is mostly oriented to servicing small fishing boats and cruise ships with tourists from all over the world (Europe and America).
