Ports of the Pacific >>>Accessibility >>> Plant and Port Facilities>>>Rates

Puerto Sandino was founded in the year 1955. The port is  located on Nicaragua´s Pacific Coast, in the bay formed by Isla Venado and the Tamarindo river of the department of Leon. An asphalt highway connects the port with the capital, at a distance of only 70 kilometers. The geographic coordenates of the port are latitude 12º11'  north and longitude 86º48' west.

The system used for loading and unloading cargo at Puerto Sandino has two steps, as it uses barges.  Puerto Sandino has two floating berthing stations, one for the handling of Liquid Cargo and another one for the handling of Solid Cargo.

Berth for Liquid Cargo: It is made up of six metal mooring buoys. These are kept in place by 3 ¼” cables tied to an anchor of 20.000 pounds each to provide security and stability and to be able to unload the Liquid Cargo through the submarine network of pipes, until the reception tanks.

Berth for Solid Cargo: It is made up of four metal mooring buoys, held in place by 95 ms of 2 ½”  and 3 ½” chains and two anchors of 5000 pounds and two of 20.000 pounds, plus an intermediate concrete counterbalance of 16 tons, which gives it a secure position and stability to conduct its operations of loading or unloading.
