The Port El Bluff services freight carriers, container ships, tankers and boats transporting general cargo.  It also receives coasting trade ships that transport general cargo towards the Port of El Bluff and of Corn Island.  In addition passengers travelling to Corn Island board the coasting trade ships in the Port of El Rama and in the city of Bluefields.

Two types of cargo are handled in the installations of the port El Bluff: Dry cargo in 20 and 40 feet containers (general cargo) and liquid cargo, which is handled by the Companía Distribuidora de Petróleo (Petronic) whose warehouses are  at about 250 meters of the quay.  They import diesel and gasoline and distribute it in the entire Region.

Loading and unloading the ships in the bay of Bluefields can be done in a rather secure way, as the changes of tides and currents are relatively low.  This allows the ships to maneuver, berth and carry out other activities without any delays
