The port of El Rama is located in the Región Autónomo del Atlántico Sur (RAAS) at 294 kilometers of the City of Managua and just one kilometer from the town of El Rama. It is located at about 100 kms. of the mouth of the Escondido River; and has a totally asphalted and safe highway, that allows the circulation of all types of land transport.
This port essentially provides the link between the marine cargo moved from the Atlantic coast towards the Pacific and vice versa.
In the year 2008, from this harbor terminal the exports of young cows towards Venezuela began, within the framework of ALBA, the Bolivarian Alternative for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Its geographic position facilitates a fast connection with the Pacific and it´s the best alternative for those wanting to develop international trade relations with businesses on the east coast of the United States.
Geographically the port is located at Latitude 12°10’11” North and Longitude 84°13' 88” West.
The port has a floating wharf (metallic hull of 93,00 mts. X 24,00 mts.x 5,5 mts.), that needs repairs, with its metallic bridge that provides access to the mainland . It also has access towards areas of mainland storage, as well as covered and outside storage areas.
The depths in the dockage zone are between 5,00 and 6,00 mts. This port offers coasting trade services to ships of 1.500 to 2.000 DWT on El Rama - Miami and the Caribbean Sea lines. In 2005 a new multipurpose wharf with a length of 105 mts., 35 mts wide and a 5,5 mts depth was opened, able to handle general cargo and containers
