The port of Granada is located at 45 km from the capital Managua. There is an asphalt highway between Granada and Managua. The port of Granada is the main port of the western coast of the lake of Nicaragua, and it is the place where the main offices of the Management of the Ports of the lake region are located.
The port is located at latitude 11* 55 ' 35 " North and longitude 85* 56 ' 16 " west, on the coast of lake Cocibolca, in the oldest city of Central America, Granada, that still preserves its old colonial architecture like a treasure.
The port of Granada is a starting point that connects with other amazing destinations, such as the island of Ometepe and Río San Juan. It is surrounded by exceptionally beautiful nature, like the natural reserve of the Mombacho a Volcano more than 1,340 meters high from where the Sierra Chontaleña can be appreciated, and the paradisiacal archipelago of islets, the plateau of the pueblos blancos and the immensity of the great lake of Nicaragua, the Cocibolca.
Installations and port facilities:
Wharf: The pier of this Port was constructed in the year 1966, it`s got a reinforced concrete structure build on pillars, with a length of 266 mts and 5 mts wide. Depth reported in the berthing area at the end of the pier is of approximately 12 feet. Recently the pier was equipped with a protection system to cushion the impact of the boats. The Port offers services for both cargo and passengers.
Warehouses and yards: The port of Granada has a roofed 260 square mts warehouse.
Cargo handling and movement equipment: There is no special equipment for cargo handling. The port only has a railway line, on which two platforms with cargo are moved back and forth between the pier and the warehouse.
